When is fiber not fiber (and vice versa)

I could have called this Disingeneous Advertising III. Episode I saw Virgin Media relegating copper to cooking and in episode II Numéricable touted their fiber network. But I thought the attempt by cable companies to muddle the minds of consumers was really what's at stake here hence this title.

This is the next step though. With the delicious specificity of openly comparative advertising (which is forbidden in most European countries), Time Warner cable tries to slam Verizon's FiOS. Laugh or weep (your choice).
