OK, so I didn't post during my holiday.
Sometimes a holiday needs to be a holiday, you know!
Anyway, here's a photo of my highlight moment from the holiday, just an hour or so before leaving Noirmoutier.
My youngest son can ride his bike without the little back wheels! Just as it was with my eldest, it happened suddenly. I don't know why it fills me with such pride, but it's kind of a defining moment. In this instance it also compensates (a little) for my own biking woes since I sprained an ankle biking on the third day of the holiday. Hopefully it'll be over soon and I can get back to biking regularly.
Anyway, back to work. And frustrated. I'm sorting through the pile of email that came through during the holiday (and a few weeks before that, I'm not very disciplined in my email treatment.) That in itself is not the source of the frustration, but the fact that I have to do it with Lotus Notes is. What a piece of sh*t this software is. And I'm not even talking about the insane ergonomy and the multiple clicks required to do any basic email task.
The thing that drives me nuts this morning is that every time I want to create a folder, Lotus freezes for about 90 seconds. Yes, you head that. 90 seconds. During which you do nothing but stare at the screen and shake a powerless mouse.
Latency matters, people. And it's not just about last-mile access. Software and related app servers need to be adapted to a low-latency world too. I'd kill for a work-oriented Google Mail like app...
