These last few weeks I've been oscillating between gobsmacked horror and cynical laughter when looking at the financial crisis. I just finished collaborating on a YG piece which is our serious assessment of the impact on the telecom sector in general and the road to ubiquitous connectivity in particular entitled Will the Anywhere Economy Slow Down? It's been interesting work, but it is based (inevitably) on reasoning, and sometimes I wonder if rolling dice or drawing tarot cards might not be a more accurate way to predict what's happening on the markets.
On Wednesday I had a moment of disbelief. In the middle of the morning, I decided to take a short Le Monde break. That's my homeworker equivalent of a walk to the water cooler. Front page top, "Paris CAC down more than 8%, quotations in Paris halted." I had this sudden "f*ck!" moment where I really wondered if the whole world as we know it was coming to an end.
I'll tell you though, one category of people who seem to be making a lot of money these days is photographs who specialise in traders holding their heads in their hands. Here's a collection of the best one's I've seen these last few weeks:
Bird and Fortune's sketch which I posted a couple of days back gave me a good laugh in the midst of the pervading pain, and I just found out this morning that there's another one. Enjoy!
