You will have noticed that in recent months, I haven't exaxctly been very upbeat about the tech policy of the current French government. Unfortunately, the rules are written by people who are themselves at best casual users and fail to understand the stakes (if you doubt me, check it out from the mouth of the MPs themselves, here or here).
This morning, Frédéric Lefebvre, who already made a fool of himself by making nonsensical declarations about responses to internet piracy in general and hadopi in particular has dealt a deadly blow to homeworking. In the context of a discussion on workforce lending between businesses, Lefebvre tried to introduce an amendment that would allow workers to work from home when on sick leave.
Of course this created an uproar, and the amendment was repelled, but the damage is done. In one fell swoop, Lefebvre has ensured that workers, unions and most left wing MPs will now reject any encouragement to genuine homeworking as suspiscious, equating homeworking with a way to squeeze even more working hours out of the employee.
I'm in despair at the utter stupidity of our MPs when it comes to tech issues..
