Cloud, a buzzword ? Nah…

There's little doubt in my mind that the potential of cloud computing and cloud applications is considerable. And there's even less doubt that it's happening before our very eyes (and quite often without our knowledge too…)

But as always with tech trends, the buzz seems to have overtaken reality, causing a general tiredness around the topic…

One thing is clear to me: we won't get cloud en masse without super-fast broadband.

    Reality check 1 : How much different is cloud computing from the service bureaus of yore (IBM, GEISCO, Boeing, CompuServe, etc.) besides access ?
    Reality check 2 : What part of a company’s data MUST be under their direct, physical control per applicable laws ?
    Reality check 3 : If you don’t have Big-Inch-class connectivity (gigabit and above), does your cloud vendor have a regional office for bulk data transfers via sneaker-net ?
